September 5, 2008 (Sawf News) - Eva Mendes cannot understand why the censors allow guns to be shown on TV but not nipples. "That is a little backwards to me," the star said on Ryan Seacrest's morning show on KISS FM on Thursday, September 4.

Eva Mendes, 34, explained the circumstances under which a glimpse of her 'girl' made it to Calvin Klein's 'Secret Obsession' perfume commercial, which was not aired by US networks for being too provocative.

"That was me doing what I do… that is rolling around in sheets…

"I am the face of their new perfume 'Secret Obsession' I was rolling around in bed for the commercial spot. You know…I had a little situation…one of the girls wanted to say hello without letting anybody know so she…basically I had a nipple slippage. It made the commercial because it was so natural and so beautiful and it was very quick.

"We can show guns every where but we can't show woman's nipple. That is a little backwards to me."

The creative director for the commercial, Fabien Baron, earlier expressed his frustration at the commercial's rejection saying:

"You must be kidding me. This country really needs a new president - this country is so messed up," said Baron. "It's such a joke and it's quite upsetting, frankly, how hypocritical this country has become. It's OK for children to see people killed by guns? Spreading a little love right now would be a good idea.

"She is being a little sexy, but they are not provocative," added Baron. "They are really well done. The spot is really beautiful - I really can't believe this is happening.…I don't know what else to say."

Despite being pulled off the networks, or possibly because of being pulled off the networks, the commercial has become a rage on the internet, giving Calvin Klein a lot of publicity at no cost.

Jewellery trends for spring and summer - 2008

Jewellery has been an exquisitely cherished fashion accessory for many years. In ancient times, it was believed that jewellery was helpful to ward off evil spirits. It was also a status symbol indicating the position of the persons standing in the community. During the course of time jewellery has become a sought after fashion accessory in every persons wardrobe.

Trends for 2008:

Classic costume jewellery will be the hot fashion for spring and summer of 2008. The color that would be in demand will be blue. Blue topaz and aquamarine jewellery will be the most sought after ones. Followed by blue, will be the hue of purple lending popularity to amethyst, with green adding more value to peridot gemstones. Jewellery items with blue jade, blue opals, moonstones, sapphires, lapis lazuli, and handmade lamp work beads in blue will be the charm of the season. Counterpoint color for purple will be gemstones like citrine, yellow topaz, amber, and canary diamond jewellery.

Sterling silver with paramount cubic zirconia will be considered as an alluring substitute for diamonds. Cubic zirconia is the worlds premium diamond alternative. Combined with sterling silver, it has a warm look of white gold or platinum and possesses a rich look of a diamond. Diamonds will always have its importance and demand, but the prices are real budget busters, and may not always suit the consumers resources. The same jewellery, done in cubic zirconia and sterling silver will have an elegant look, and can be purchased at a fraction of the price. Cubic zirconia will be inevitable in every jewellery collection.

Fall trends for 2008 also include Greek and Latin black. Black onyx, simulated black diamonds, and classic black pearls will be the perfect accessories that never go out of style, and the upcoming season will see this classic color creating ripples in the world of jewelry. Necklaces, bracelets and earrings in layers is in trend this season, combined with unusual smaller shapes on top of larger pieces of silver, copper, or gold. Antique look is always popular during the fall and winter months. Teardrop stones in all sizes and color will be in craze. Gold and silver earrings with an inlay of turquoise or mother of pearl and silver hoop earrings with cultured freshwater pearls hanging in the center will find its way into the fashion world.

Bridal Jewellery:

Tungsten rings and jewellery has become the hottest and fastest growing trend in jewelry segment because of it unique and intriguing appearance, durability and cost. Titanium rings and titanium jewelry are also quite durable, yet extremely lightweight and comes in traditional titanium color or the popular black titanium. It is also is hypoallergenic and hence is ideal for people with sensitive skin.

Bride Grooms Ornaments: Tungsten Carbide Watches along with tungsten rings, platinum, or titanium rings will create a bold and classy look as carbide works with any style of jewellery.

Brides Jewellery: Traditional heart pendant with the new vibe of titanium fashion and diamond heart necklaces will be in vogue. Titanium is creating waves both in quality and price topped with a stunning look. Despite the fact that metal colors are always a popular fashion for brides, cool tones of titanium and tungsten jewellery would also make a charming appearance.

The global market for gems and jewellery today is US$ 85 billion with key markets having an average compounded annual growth rate of 5-10 per cent in the last decade. Some jewelry trends will move on to become classics, while most others will be passing fads that may be out of style a year from now. The trick is to pick classic designs that will stand the test of time.

London Fashion Week | Topshop, Biba, Emilio de la Morena, Poltock & Walsh

he Fashion Telex comes to you from London Fashion Week. Melissa Ventosa Martin, T Magazine’s women’s fashion associate, files daily dispatches.

London Fashion Week started yesterday with a double feature — Poltock & Walsh and Emilio de la Morena. The venue, the Science Museum’s library, was an intimate environment to showcase these young designers. P&W continued their color blocking, this time in a palette of chocolate and jewel tones. From E.D.M, there were some nice nubby tweeds. … Biba showed at my favorite London venue, the ballroom at Claridge’s, at 1 p.m. (I am always amazed at the zealousness with which Brits push Champagne and mixed cocktails at every hour!) This was even more evident when I made my way to the Topshop venue for its presentation. At 3 o’clock in the afternoon we entered what appeared to be a club night — cocktails, strobe lights and Kelly Osbourne mingling with the guests. Weird. … After dinner it was, finally, time for a drink. We headed to Ye Old Axe on Hackney street for the No Romance party where Jamie and Emma from British Vogue spinned a solid set of dance favorites. Cheers!”

Valentino waves goodbye to fashion world

PARIS (Reuters) - Fighting back tears, Valentino waved goodbye to the fashion world on Wednesday with a haute couture show brimming with the glamour that made him a favorite with Hollywood stars, socialites and royalty for half a century.

Lipstick red, the color that defined Valentino's career, engulfed his final turn as the designer streamed models down the runway in his signature shade, creating a flame-hued tunnel.

"He is parting in happiness but the fashion world is in mourning," said front row guest David Furnish who, together with his partner singer Elton John, is one of Valentino's friends.

In the grounds of the Rodin Museum, Valentino, considered one of the most influential designers of the late 20th century, was joined by actress Uma Thurman, European royalty and the New York socialites who have worn his floor-sweeping gowns since his breakthrough show in 1962.

Day suits in soft cashmere worn with long white gloves recalled the fashions Valentino created for his earliest fans Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Audrey Hepburn.

Dresses in shimmering sorbet pinks and oranges heavy with his signature bows, lace and ruffles were fit for the Hollywood stars he dresses today.

"I am so sad, we're witnessing the end of an era of great Italian fashion couturiers. When he is gone there is no one to replace him," said Italian television celebrity Simona Ventura, blinking away tears.

Valentino, whose couture house was bought by private equity firm Permira last year, is ranked alongside Giorgio Armani and Karl Lagerfeld as the last of the great designers from an era before fashion became a global, highly commercial industry.
