why watch Raavanan ?

2. If you thought Iruvar, Roja and Bombay were Mani Ratnam’s best, Raavan/ Raavanan is going to stun you! Says who? Just about everybody who has worked for the project! “Mani Ratnam has made this film like a penance. Mani Ratnam,Vikram and Aishwarya Rai will definitely get National Awards,” said lyricist Vairamuthu.

3. Mani Ratnam’s Raavanan is also special for its huge star cast: Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Prithviraj, Karthik, Prabhu,Priyamani, Munna, John Vijay in Tamil and Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Vikram, Govinda, Ravikissen, Priyamani, Nikhil Dwivedi in Hindi (Raavan).

4. Most parts of the movie were shot in deep interiors of dense forests. Our hero plays a tribal chief!

Shyam Kaushal has choreographed the thrilling climax fight. “The shooting for Raavan began in January 2009 in Kolkata, then Ooty, and the climax was shot on Malsej Ghat, where there’s a scene on bridges 2,000 feet above mountains. Mani loves challenges and likes challenging his actors and technicians too. His quest for perfection puts them through a grueling routine,” he said.

6. For the first time, Vikram simultaneously plays two diametrically different roles in two languages of the same film. Vikram play the role of Dev (Ram) in Hindi and Beera (Raavan) in Tamil.

7. Aishwarya plays the role of Ragini, a spunky classical dance teacher. The first look of the movie shows her dancing gracefully in a song.

8. Interestingly, Aishwarya Rai will dub in her own voice for the Tamil version while Vikram is all set to speak Hindi in Raavan.

9. Another highlight is Prabhu and Karthi, co-stars in the blockbuster Mani Ratnam movie Agni Natchathiram, they team up again for the same director after a long gap.

Azhagana Ponnuthan – Tamil Movie

Director Thiru (not the one who directed ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’) with Namitha in the company has dished out a glamourous entertainer that would obviously woo his target audience – the youngsters.

The filmmaker seems to have been inspired heavily by ‘Summer of 42′, a 1971 classic directed by Robert Mulligan. But for Namitha, as promised by the promos, ‘Azhagana Ponnuthan’ has nothing big to offer to movie-goers.

In a nutshell, the movie is about a youth who loves a woman older to him one-sided. Though it is a bold theme considering the society that we live, the narration takes away all the sheen. A cliched presentation and predictable characterisation mars the flow of the film.

Namitha is the saving grace as she appears in flaunting costumes, dances and eventually provides loads of advices too.Parthiban appears in the very first reel recollecting his travails with a woman whom he had developed an affinity in his teens.

A flashback takes one to Kodaikanal where Karthik (Karteesh) falls instantly for a gorgeous woman called Jennifer (Namitha), who is older to him. She is admired and respected by everyone, especially men.

It is all but Karthik’s wild imagination is the rest. Karthik sings duets with Jennifer and runs behind her. However in the latter half, he goes into a shell brooding over his love and beloved. Twists and turns reveal that Jennifer’s husband has died in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. What happens then forms the climax.

Namitha has tried to shed her glamdoll image and perform in the movie. But a weak narration by Thiru gives no place for it. The commercial elements gives the movie a different colour, which unfortunately doesn’t work. The young Karteesh reminds one of ‘Kadhal Kondein’ Dhanush at many a place. Parthiban needs to be applauded for taking the guts to do such a role. A couple of songs by Sundar C Babu are hummable.

On the whole, Thiru has provided a bold theme that may work wonders with front-benchers.

Vinnaithandi Varuvaya – Tamil Movie 2010

For those who are fed up watching the young rough Silambarasan uttering punch dialogues, double entendres and man-handling 50 men at the same time, here’s something unusual you can look out for.

Yeah! The ‘Little Superstar’ Silambarasan has geared up for a new avatar of a cool energetic lad in a breezy romantic entertainer.

Gowtham Vasudev Menon leaped with laurels for his extraordinary debut in ‘Minnale’ and ‘Vinnaithandi Varuvaaya’ has been churned out on the same lines.

The film is about an ambitious assistant director Karthik (Silambarasan) wanting to make it big as a filmmaker. But when he falls in love with a Christian girl Jessie (Trisha), he’s ready to sacrifice his biggest dreams.

Though this is the main storyline, we heed it from the closer sources that Trisha flies to United States and much alikeSurya in ‘Vaaranam Aayiram’, the assistant director Simbhu flies down to the foreign land in search of his belle.

Musical score by A.R. Rahman has already created sensation amongst the audio market retailers. For the first time, a free poster of A.R. Rahman of his rare moods can be availed at free of cost with each CDs.

Much spellbound with Gowtham’s stylish audio launch at London and rich visuals for songs, A.R. Rahman has voluntarily ensured that he’ll score one more additional songs for this film.

Another audio launch at Chennai is being planned to be hosted grandiosely. Anthony has handled editing while Manoj Paramahamsa of ‘Eeram’ fame has cranked the camera.

The film is simultaneously made in Tamil and Telugu with Naga Chaitanya and Samantha taking on lead roles.

The film is slated to hit screens for Valentine’s Day on February 14

Naan Avan Illai 2 – New Tamil Movie

Filmmaker Selvah’s remake of Naan Avan Illai proved to be a black horse at box office and after now he’s proving of his adeptness again with its sequel. Nearly couple of years, The Master of Deception is back in business with his tritely conniving styles. Jeevan plays the same role of a conman transfixing the filthy rich girls (Lakshmi Rai, Hema Malini, Swetha Menon and Rakshana), whose dreams are barely about money, diamonds and an obedient servant-like-husbands.

Although, the entire film has the hackneyed narration of Jeeva repeating the same fraudulent acts again and again, Selvah makes sure that audiences don’t feel bored about it. Much similar to the prequel, we’ve Jeevan reasserting– Naan Avanillai (I am not that person) and naturally, it adds to the interesting quotients in this film.

Sangeetha gears on for an exceptional role sans glamour while rest of the actresses seem to have crossed their limits of glam-quotients. Especially Hema Malini turns to be topped on these charts as she does nothing other than skin shows. On the pars, Rakshana and Swetha Menon strive to get their skins exposed to extreme…. But it’s really puzzling on who’s actually designing costumes for Lakshmi Rai.

Technically, the film hasn’t got anything special to mention about. It looks like music director Imman had just scored the music without any interests. Or maybe, Selvah requested him not to strain too much for best tunes.

Though Jeevan’s scheming acts are quite enjoyable, they lack logicalities. The best part to be appreciated is Selvah’s sleek screenplay and his ability to present an entertaining film with a short duration of just 105mins.

Finally, if you’ve planned to watch this Naan Avanillai-2, just go ahead, sit back and relax. But please drop your reasoning factors aside and don’t question certain illogical attributes prevalent in the screenplay.
