Madhuri began her Bollywood journey in 1984 with the film Abodh. After Abodh, she acted in a number of films for the next three years, but got only minor success.
The first Madhuri Dixit film that made it big was Dayavan in 1988, where she starred opposite Vinod Khanna.
The year 1988 turned out to be big for Madhuri as that was also when she acted in the hit film Tezaab opposite Anil Kapoor. The film got her the first of her 15 Filmfare nominations. Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit became a popular on-screen couple and did a number of films together.
Also in 1989, Madhuri acted in Tridev. This was an early multi-starrer film with actors like Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Naseeruddin Shah and Sangeeta Bijlani in leading roles.
Madhuri got her first Filmfare Best Actress Award for the 1990 film Dil opposite Aamir Khan. The film was a major hit, and the song khambe jaisi khadi hai topped the charts for weeks.
In 1991, Madhuri proved her acting credentials once again by starring in the horror flick 100 Days.
One of Madhuri's biggest hits, Saajan, came 1991. Apart from Madhuri, it starred Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt. This was also the time she was rumoured to be dating Sanjay Dutt.
In 1992, Madhuri teamed up with Anil Kapoor once again for Beta. This role got her her second Filmfare Award in the Best Actress category.
Madhuri delivered another superhit in 1993 along with Sanjay Dutt. This was Khalnayak. The hit song Choli ke peechhe kya hai is from this movie.
The year 1994 was big for Madhuri as she acted in a number of hit films. One of them was the dark thriller Anjaam. This was the first time she worked with Shah Rukh Khan, with whom she did a number of hit films later.

After a dull 1996, Madhuri jumped back into the limelight in 1997 with the film Mrityu Dand, where she acted along with Shabana Azmi.

In 2000, Madhuri proved her dancing prowess yet again by matching steps with Prabhu Deva in Pukar. The film starred Madhuri, Anil Kapoor and Namrata Shirodkar.


Also in 2002, Madhuri teamed up with SRK and Salman Khan for Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam. This proved to be her last film before she became a mother.
After a hiatus of five years, Madhuri came back to Bollywood in 2007 with Aaja Nach Le. Despite the gap, she managed to dance her way into the audience's heart.
In 2008, Madhuri Dixit was awarded the Padma Shri by the President of India.
